The northbound lane of College Avenue from E. Myrtle Street to E. Mulberry Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 11 for a tree removal.
City Forestry crews are removing a large cottonwood tree that has major portions which are dead and poses a safety risk to the community. The tree is on the east side of College near Travel King. Crews will also trim and prune trees in the area during this time.
Ground personnel will provide access to businesses and residents during the closure and traffic will be detoured from E. Prospect Road to S. Lemay Avenue and Riverside Avenue to S. Shields Street.
Removal of this tree will be a significant loss to the community. However, City Forestry will plant a replacement tree this year. Pruning the other trees will improve their condition and help Forestry work toward a safer community forest. One hundred percent of the wood from the downed tree will be repurposed.
The City’s Forestry Division maintains more than 54,500 trees along streets, parks, cemeteries, golf courses and other City facilities and properties. As an annual Tree City, USA recipient for more than 40 years, the Forestry Division ensures that trees are safe, healthy and viable for years to come.
