The City of Fort Collins will host an open house March 22 for residents to learn more about the upcoming Riverside Bridge replacement and Spring Creek restoration work, which will take place later this year.
The Riverside Bridge, which crosses Spring Creek near the Edora Pool Ice Center (EPIC), is structurally deficient. Construction is expected to begin in late summer and continue through early 2019, and will require a six-week full closure of Riverside Avenue in the fall. During the closure, access to EPIC will be from Stuart Street.
The open house will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at EPIC, 1801 Riverside Ave. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the project plans, and talk with City engineering and utilities staff about the bridge replacement and creek restoration work.
In addition to replacing the bridge, this project will also raise Riverside Avenue out of the 100-year flood plain. After the bridge is constructed, Utilities crews will work to realign Spring Creek at that location, stabilizing banks and improving fish and wildlife habitats.
The bridge and creek improvements are scheduled for the fall and winter months to coincide with the lowest Spring Creek flows.
