Replacement of Irrigation Pipes Across Lemay Avenue Begins Feb. 5

FORT COLLINS, CO – On Monday, Feb. 5 the City of Fort Collins will begin work to replace two existing, insufficient irrigation pipes that cross Lemay Avenue a quarter-mile south of Horsetooth Road. This project will take approximately two months and will permanently repair the area where a sinkhole developed late last year.

To expediate this project, a full closure of Lemay Avenue from Ticonderoga Drive to Horsetooth Drive will begin on Feb. 26 (weather dependent) and last for three weeks. During this time, detour routes will be Timberline Road and John F. Kennedy Parkway.

The tentative construction schedule and traffic impacts are:

  • Feb. 5 – Begin construction on east side of Lemay Avenue
    • Single lane closures on Lemay from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    • Maintain two-way traffic on Lemay at all times
    • West side sidewalk open at all times for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Feb. 26 – Remove pipe from center of Lemay Avenue
    • Full closure of Lemay for the pipe replacement
    • No through traffic on Lemay between Horsetooth Road and Ticonderoga Drive
    • East side sidewalk open at all times for pedestrians and cyclists
  • March 16 – Re-open Lemay Avenue to two-way through traffic
    • Single lane closures on Lemay from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    • Maintain two-way traffic on Lemay at all times
    • East and West sidewalks open at all times
  • March 23 – Construction completed

As with all City construction projects, the public is reminded to please drive slowly and safely in construction zones.
