FORT COLLINS, CO – Emergency repair of a sinkhole will require night time closures of southbound Lemay Avenue between Horsetooth Road and Ticonderoga Drive beginning Monday evening, August 21. All southbound lanes will close each evening at 7 p.m. and remained closed through 7 a.m. the following day.
Northbound lanes are open and one lane of southbound traffic will be open during the day. Access to nearby residential properties during the closures will be to/from the south. Repairs are expected to be complete by Thursday morning, August 24.
The sinkhole, a result of a deteriorated metal ditch pipe, is located in the southbound bike lane just south of Warren Park. This sinkhole is 8’ deep and the void is over 3’ wide. Water in this section of the ditch has been turned off.
Safety is the highest priority. After initial assessment, the City’s Stormwater and Engineering teams will use the night time closures to build a temporary diversion for the ditch and stabilize the road so all lanes can be re-opened. Complete replacement of the pipe will occur this winter after irrigation season ends.
Alternate routes are advised, and the public’s patience is appreciated.
