City of Fort Collins Art in Public Places Program (APP) Seeks: Youth Drawings, Artists to Paint or Artistically Decorate Pianos, and Muralists for Transformer Cabinets

2017 Pedestrian Paver Project

Fort Collins youth ages 3 to 18 are asked to submit a black and white line drawing, depicting life in Fort Collins or demonstrating a transportation theme. Selected designs will be sandblasted into granite pavers and placed in various sidewalks around the city. Eligibility is open to residents and/or schools within the City of Fort Collins city limits. Submissions will be divided into three age group categories: 3–8, 9–12 and 13–18. A selection committee will select up to fifteen winners based on suitability, form, content, scale and clarity. Awarded artists will receive $50 per design.

All submissions must be received by 5 p.m. on March 1, 2017.

2017 Pianos About Town Program

In cooperation with community partners Bohemian Foundation and Downtown Development Authority, APP is seeking local artists/teams to paint murals or otherwise artistically decorate working pianos as part of Pianos About Town Program. The program is looking for diversity in artwork styles and concepts. Once completed, the pianos take on their new status as interactive public art throughout Fort Collins. Selected artists will receive an honorarium of $1,000.

All submissions must be received by 5 p.m. on March 6, 2017.

The program is offering sessions designed to provide resources for potential applicants; however, attending a session is not required in order to apply. There is one more session to be held this year:

Open House and Application Review
Feb. 21, 4-6:30 p.m.
Community Creative Center, 200 Matthews St., Fort Collins

At this drop-in session, staff will be available to sit with applicants one-on-one to review applications and make application recommendations. Staff also will be available to provide general information for applicants who were unable to attend the first information session. Information about other artist opportunities offered by the City of Fort Collins will be available.

2017 Transformer Cabinet Mural Program

APP is seeking local artists/teams and non-profit organizations to work with the Transformer Cabinet Mural Project Team to develop and paint murals on electrical transformer cabinets around Fort Collins. Once selected, transformer cabinet sites will be assigned to artists/teams, with one or more cabinets per site for painting. The murals are intended to help mitigate graffiti, as well as add art to the community. Eligibility is open to Artists/teams and non-profit organizations residing, owning a business, having a current studio space, or located within the Fort Collins Growth Management Area are eligible to apply. The budget for this project starts at $1,250 per artist/team, with payment dependent upon square footage of cabinets. Non-profit organizations selected for this project will receive an honorarium of $450 per site to cover expenses.
