On January 7 at 10:33 a.m., Fort Collins Police Services was notified of a head-on collision between two vehicles on Horsetooth Road west of Lemay Avenue.

A 2003 Toyota Tundra was traveling east on Horsetooth Road in the right through lane when it lost control on the icy roadway and slid into westbound traffic. A 2014 Scion iQ sedan was traveling west on Horsetooth Road in the left through lane when it collided head-on with the truck.

The driver of the Toyota Tundra, Theresa Tryon, 50, of Fort Collins, was not injured. Tryon was an Emergency Services Dispatcher with Fort Collins 911 from 1994 to 2016. The driver of the Scion iQ died at the scene. The Scion iQ driver’s name will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.

Horsetooth Road was closed between Lemay Avenue and Stover Street for approximately 5 ½ hours while investigators processed the scene. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision. The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.

Anyone with information about the collision, who has not already given a statement to police, is asked to contact Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-416-2224.
