On December 31, 2016 at 12:51 AM, Douglas Scovill, 36, of Fort Collins, was driving a black Nissan Titan pick up west on Mountain Avenue. Scovill attempted to make a right turn onto northbound Shields Street and lost control of his vehicle, resulting in his vehicle colliding with a building.

The front passenger, Angela Ramirez, 54, of Fort Collins, was seriously injured in the collision and transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies.

Scovill was arrested and charged with Vehicular Assault and Driving under the Influence (DUI). He was booked into Larimer County Jail. All charges are merely an accusation and persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The intersection of Shields Street and Mountain Avenue was closed for approximately four hours while the Fort Collins Police CRASH Team investigated the incident. Police believe speed and alcohol are contributing factors in the collision. Anyone who has information and has not spoken to law enforcement should contact Officer Tim Brennan at (970) 416-2229 or Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at (970) 221-6868.
