On Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Midtown Arts Center, architects, designers and artists were honored with urban design awards celebrating their contributions to the quality of the urban environment in Fort Collins. The highlight of the event was two moving tributes to longtime leaders and pioneers in the rebirth of Downtown, Jim Reidhead and Dick Beardmore. Both were inducted to the Fort Collins Urban Design Hall of Fame. The event was captured by Cable 14 and we encourage you to watch the awardees present their projects and share their insights. The video is available at and periodically airs on the City’s channel 14.

In 2006, the City of Fort Collins created these awards to promote awareness of urban design and showcase how great spaces and places enhance our city. This year, 11 awards were given to recognize creative vision and achievement in five categories and stretch from the restoration of the Downtown Coca-Cola “ghost sign” to the new streetscape at the busy intersection of College and Harmony.

“This event brings people together from all the different lines of work that help build the city you see. The fun part is hearing the stories and ideas that drove these projects and add flavor to our city.” Say Clark Mapes, city planner. “The program gives us some places to go see that we might not be aware of, and the stories help us understand more about what we’re seeing. You might come away knowing some things you can point out to your family, friends or visitors.”
