Summer Tennis Activities: Extravaganza and Coach Workshop
Two great activities are scheduled at the Rolland Moore Racquet Center, 2201 South Shields Street, on Saturday, May 18. Get ready to kick off a summer of tennis with a USTA Recreational Tennis Coaches Workshop from 8:00 AM-2:30 PM followed by the Extravaganza Barbeque and Babolat Demo Day from 3:30-5:00 PM. USTA Recreational Tennis Coaches Workshop
The USTA Recreational Tennis Coaches Workshop from 8:00 AM-2:30 PM is for teaching pro’s, Parks and Recreation teaching staff, middle school and high school coaches, after-school providers, PE teachers, parents/grandparents, league players and high school players that want to learn more about teaching tennis and want to learn new games and drills. The cost of the workshop is $15 including lunch.
Dave Boon, Director of Tennis for the Wyoming USTA, and top USTA clinician, will be directing the workshop. All participants will receive Learn to Rally and Play Curriculum (150 pages), Participant Journal (additional games, drills and materials), DVD – Top 10 Games That Every Coach Should Know, Hitting for about 5 hours of the RCW – this is a hands on workshop!
The workshop will cover: Warm Up and Athletic Development Activities – we have some really new cool stuff for advanced players, 36’ Court and 60’ Court Specifications – 10 and Under Tennis, Instant Rally Progression (Forehand and Backhand Progressions), Rally Reinforcers (games and drills to building consistent ground strokes), Organized Play (Games), Volley, Serve and Return Progressions, PAS (Path, Angle and Speed) – a great teaching tool, Basic Singles and Doubles Strategy and Tactics, Game Based Approach to Coaching (A FUN and Effective way to coach), Top 10 Games That Every Coach Should Know.

Extravaganza Barbeque and Babolat Demo Day
During the Extravaganza adults and children will participate in fun drills and games with Lewis Tennis School professionals. Coaches will be giving instructional tips, Quickstart courts will be setup for young players and a target court will be available with the chance to win prizes. To satisfy the appetites of participants, an outdoor barbecue will also be provided. Players may demo the new Babolat line of racquets with a free stringing for any racquet purchases. Suggested donation is $7 per person, maximum $18 per family or pay what you can!
