City of Fort Collins to Sponsor Inaugural Business Appreciation Breakfast May 21

The City of Fort Collins Economic Health Office will host its first Business Appreciation Breakfast May 21 in recognition of Fort Collins businesses and National Small Business Week.

The breakfast, featuring Mayor Karen Weitkunat, city leadership and community business partners, will be 7:30-9 a.m. at the Fort Collins Marriott, 350 E. Horsetooth Road. The event is open to the public but registration is required because of limited space. To register, go to

The program will include brief remarks by the mayor, Bruce Hendee, the City’s Chief Sustainability Officer, and Josh Birks, director of the Economic Health Office. City officials will also release a 2012 Economic Health overview and recognize long-time businesses that have operated in the city.

“This is an exciting time in the City with many ongoing revitalization projects and significant collaborations in business retention and expansion,” said Josh Birks, Economic Health Director. “Our vision is to craft a dynamic culture of innovation and stewardship to cultivate quality of place and economic health.”

Following the breakfast, the City and the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce will co-host a series of breakout sessions from 9:30-11:30 a.m. (two per hour):

First session:
• Utilities/Water Restrictions/ClimateWise (City of Fort Collins)
• Workforce - Business Services/Training Grant Opportunities (Larimer County Workforce)

Second session:
• Working with the South Fort Collins and North Fort Collins Business Associations/Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce/Better Business Bureau/Downtown Business Association
• Entrepreneurship (CSU Institute of Entrepreneurship, RMI and Larimer SBDC)
