February Volunteer News

Welcome to The City of Fort Collins Volunteer Services Program Enewsletter!

You may have subscribed to this publication awhile ago, but its been under construction until now.  With a new look and new content, Volunteer Enews will give you all the information you need about fun ways to give back to your community.

The City of Fort Collins runs on the power of Volunteers! In 2019, close to 11,000 volunteers donated over 150,000 volunteer hours to make our city an amazing place to live, work and play! In fact, Forbes Magazine recently named Fort Collins one of the 14 Best Places to Travel in 2019.  The work of our volunteers impacts everyone and it is our hope that it also makes you feel good about being a part of something big --- because you are!

Stay up-to-date on events and volunteer opportunities in the community by checking out Volunteer Enews and visiting https://fcgov.com/volunteer to view the latest information.

VSP Receives National Accreditation
The City of Fort Collins received the Service Enterprise Certification at the City Council meeting on February 4th. This accreditation illuminates the valuable work volunteers have been doing in our community since 1984.  The Fort Collins Volunteer Program is designed to creatively engage people in their unique talents. Everyone has unique talents, and when those are paired with a passion to help the results can be amazing. With that aim, the City promotes volunteer involvement to improve services and create community. This award makes Fort Collins only the third city in the country to receive such an honor!

It's Easy to Make a Buck, But More Rewarding to Make a Difference.
For some people, it is hard to find time to fit in physical volunteer work with busy schedules. Now, giving back to your community can happen with the click of a button. Give2Serve is a new feature for anyone who wants to give a gift to help support those who serve. These charitable gifts are tax deductible and every dollar helps make a difference.
Your gift supports:
- Transportation to volunteer projects for our youth service club
- Necessary volunteer supplies including trash bags, gloves, and other tools
- Modest stipends for CSU interns
- Shirts and food for our 9,000+ amazing volunteers

Get Your Hands Dirty
Jumping into spring means our thoughts turn to beautifying our community. There are many ways you can volunteer with the City.  On Feb 29, you can join City Councilmember Julie Pignataro to clean up Warren Park and walk over to CB&Potts for her listening session. This is your chance to help cocreate our community and share your thoughts on life in Fort Collins.

Help Us Recycle!
Did you know that you can help divert trash and turn it into beautiful works of art that help keep kids safe on their bikes? Join our Environmental Services Department to turn street sign scraps into reflective "Be seen, Be safe" tags.  These events are held twice per month at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery. The next one is February 12 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

National Volunteer Week is Coming Up!
Mark your calendars! National volunteer week is April 19th - 25th and is a time for organizations across the country to honor volunteers and recognize the impact of their time and efforts. We are working hard to plan a week of fun events for Fort Collins and will share those details next month!
