How can outdoor opportunities be improved in northwest Fort Collins? Residents are invited to help connect youth and families to the outdoors through places, career pathways, and programs.

Please come share your thoughts at an Open House featuring free dinner, childcare, door prizes, family outdoor activities, friendly staff, and Spanish interpretation.  It is an event not to miss!

Los residentes están invitados a compartir sus pensamientos acerca de como conectar mejor a los jóvenes con actividades al aire libre en el noroeste de Fort Collins a través de lugares, opciones profesionales y programas en un próximo evento de ideas comunitarias. Cena gratis, cuidado de niños, premios, actividades al aire libre para la familia, equipo municipal amistoso, y la interpretación española hacen que este sea un evento que no deben de pasar por alto.

El evento de ideas comunitarias es la primera oportunidad de participación pública en un proyecto financiado por Great Outdoors Colorado su proyecto: “Project Outdoors: Plug in to Nature in Northwest Fort Collins” que tiene como objetivo enfrentar las barreras de jóvenes y las familias con deseo de disfrutar experiencias al exterior, identificar estrategias para alcanzar este deseo y conectar a los jóvenes y la comunidad colectivamente para resolverlo. El proceso de planificación actual (ahora hasta julio de 2017) es el primer paso antes de la oportunidad para solicitar $ 1-5 millones en fondos de implementación. Los socios incluyen Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, City of Fort Collins, Larimer County Boys and Girls Clubs, Colorado State University, y Poudre School District.

Wild by Wild, Saturday, October 15, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, 408 Mason Court. Stop by and view the gallery of the latest wild animal “selfies” taken by remote cameras. New fun family activities include checking a camera, finding wildlife signs, guessing animal sounds, and voting for best image of 2016. Science Behind the Scenery- Bio-Engineering: Harnessing the Resiliency of Nature, Thursday, October 27, 7-8 p.m. Nix Farm, 1745 Hoffman Mill Rd. These informative talks are designed for adults to learn more about research and science related to natural areas. How can we mimic nature to create stronger, more resilient communities? CSUs Dr. Hussam Mahmoud works at the intersection of biology and structural engineering and will share his research, including how the structure of bird nests serves as a model for better buildings. Parking is limited—please carpool, bike or walk. Free, registration required at naturetracker.fcgov.com

Day Hike: Devil’s Backbone to Coyote Ridge, Saturday, November 5, 9a.m.-3 p.m. Meet at the Devil’s Backbone Open Space parking lot. Hike from Devil's Backbone Open Space through Coyote Ridge Natural Area with naturalists from Larimer County Natural Resources and Fort Collins Natural Areas. Please bring plenty of water, a lunch, and sun protection. This is a ~9 mile hike through rough terrain with little to no shade/cover. For safety reasons, those who are not prepared will be turned away. Transportation will be provided from the Coyote Ridge parking lot back to Devil's Backbone.
