Volunteer Services Newsletter

Happy Holidays!

We hope that this newsletter finds you well. As we enter another year where COVID-19 remains part of our "normal" lives, I am continually impressed by how volunteers have stepped up to keep valuable community programs running.  This year saw the return of many holiday events including the Holiday Artisan Market at the Senior Center and Gardens of Light at the Gardens on Spring Creek.  All the beloved events around the City require the help of volunteers. The holidays wouldn't be the same with you!

In this edition of Volunteer News, you will learn many ways to give back including:

  • Give the Gift of Giving Back by donating to Volunteer Services
  • Help make holiday magic possible through Gardens of Light
  • Volunteer at Wreaths Across America

Make the Holidays Sparkle

Volunteers like you help to bring that spark to a child's eye during the holidays.  Join us for the Gardens of Light at the Gardens on Spring Creek. This event features a half-mile loop of perennial flower beds, huge sculptural flowers, grapevines, butterflies, a holiday village, and other favorite garden creatures – all constructed entirely from holiday lights. Volunteering is a great way to experience this whimsical, twinkling winter wonderland while also giving back to our community. Volunteers can serve as Greeters, Ticket Scanners, Wayfinders, and even Santa Helpers! We need more help to make this event the success is meant to be, so sign up today!

Give the Gift of Giving Back
Did you know that over 40% of Fort Collins residents volunteer?  It's true! Volunteers serve as coaches, mentors, guides, ushers and so much more! Think of your favorite parts of Fort Collins and it's likely that volunteers are involved in making them possible. Volunteers make our programs affordable and accessible.  Of course volunteer programs save the City valuable dollars (almost $4 Million every year), but supporting them isn't free.  You can use your end-of-year giving to bring more opportunities to our community. Gifts are used to support volunteers who need training, safety equipment, screening services and certifications.  Gifts also help support the recognition programs we use to show our volunteers how much we appreciate them.

Wreaths Across America
On December 18, 2021 at 10 a.m., Wreaths Across America will be at Grandview Cemetery to Remember and Honor our veterans through the laying of Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each and every veteran aloud.
