Climate Action Plan Newsletter

Reminders of climate change have been close to home this summer with heat waves breaking records across the country. We hope you are able to stay safe and hydrated, avoid the heat, and maybe even hop in the Poudre River as a fun way to get outside and cool off.

This edition of the CAP e-newsletter shares the final version of the Our Climate Future Plan in both Español and English, announces hiring for a new Climate Program Manager, and the launch of Spin, our new e-bike and e-scooter rideshare program in Fort Collins.

Despite the heat, we hope you are finding ways to revitalize this Summer after a tough year and continue making shifts in your daily life to contribute to the climate action journey we are all on together.

Hiring New Climate Program Manager
Lindsay Ex has served as Fort Collins first Climate Program Manager since 2015. We are extremely happy to announce that Lindsay has recently accepted the role of Environmental Services Director for the City of Fort Collins and will continue to serve our community in this new capacity. In her time leading climate efforts at the City, she co-created many crucial foundations for advancing climate action in Fort Collins and across the state:
With Lindsay's transition, we are now in the process of hiring a new Climate Program Manager to start a new chapter for climate action in Fort Collins. Applications for the position closed July 19th and interviews will be held at the end of August. Expect to hear an announcement from us for the new Climate Program Manager in September.

New E-Bike and E-scooter Share Program Launching This Month

The City and CSU are excited to provide Fort Collins with a new e-bike and e-scooter share program, an innovative addition to the City’s suite of equitable and sustainable transportation options. Spin is a new e-bike and e-scooter share program launching in Fort Collins in July 2021. Similar to other services, Spin users download an app to access devices and begin and end trips.

Spin service will begin July 26, 2021.

Where will Spin e-bikes and e-scooters be located?
Devices will be located in designated deployment areas within the City of Fort Collins and at CSU. Spin has been working with the City and university to ensure deployment areas are approved.

How much does it cost?
Devices cost $1 to unlock and then $0.30 per minute for both e-scooters and e-bikes.

Are there places I can’t use Spin e-scooters or e-bikes?
Spin e-scooters and e-bikes will be geofenced out of certain areas, like within the dismount zone in Downtown Fort Collins and additional areas that e-bikes and e-scooters are not allowed to park. There areas will be addressed within the Spin app.

OCF Tip of the Month: Monitor and Conserve Energy
We spend up to 90% of our time indoors, mostly at home, at school, and at work. Our buildings and homes represent the physical fabric of our community, are the places where we connect with family, friends and colleagues, and are often where we feel the safest. Changing our buildings, and our habits in them, has the potential to positively impact our lives more than any other actions.

The buildings in our community comprise over two thirds of our community’s carbon emissions. The investments in improving building performance create jobs, improve indoor air quality and health and enable hard-earned dollars to go toward other family needs and not utility bills.
