March CAP Newsletter

We have exciting news to share.  After almost 2 years of work, Our Climate Future is now our new plan for climate, energy, and waste action.  This plan encompasses the updates to the 2015 Climate Action Plan, Energy Policy and Road to Zero Waste plan. This planning process was unique in that it centered on community priorities and focused on equity, so that everyone can enjoy a carbon neutral future.  We look forward to implementing the plan with all parts of the community.  If you want to get started now, join the Shift Earth Day Challenge!  The challenge is a friendly competition full of actions everyone in Fort Collins can take.

Happy Spring,

Michelle Finchum, Interim Climate Program Manager

Reclamation Art Sculpture

Fort Collins artist Todd Kundla's sculpture, Reclamation, represents the inputs and outputs of the reclamation process at the Drake Water Reclamation Facility and was awarded as part of the City's Arts in Public Places program.

Several hundred feet of decommissioned 4” steel pipe, from the reclamation facility, were being reconfigured into a labyrinthine weave of steel conduits. This recovery of resources mirrors what is taking place on the inside of the facility where millions of gallons of wastewater flow through a complex network of pipes, pumps and holding tanks returning order to the water, bio-gas and bio-solids — all of which can be harvested for further use.

Emerald Ash Borer Detected in Fort Collins

May 2020, local and state experts confirmed the presence of emerald ash borer (EAB) in north Fort Collins just outside of city limits. EAB is a highly destructive, non-native insect that infests and kills all North American true ash species. The City's Forestry Division has strategically selected 2,100 City-owned ash trees to be treated on a three-year rotation.  Trees north of Mulberry Street will be treated in June/July of 2021.

If you have any questions about EAB, please contact the City of Fort Collins Forestry Division at forestry@fcgov.com or 970.221.6660.
