Passing the Baton

Artist

Description

The artwork for the front area of the Gardens on Spring Creek is a unique entry archway art piece. Comprised of two bronze figures mounted on stone pedestals, the piece measures approximately 12 feet wide by 12 feet high. The arch creates a welcoming image to the horticultural building, which visitors can walk through via the main sidewalk. The piece consists of cast bronze sculpture with pedestals constructed from sandstone salvaged from the Fort Collins Museum.

"While rooted in the earth, the human has stepped forward to consciousness, a commodity as precious as water, to the nurturing and care of our plants and our planet. The physical arch is actually completed by the water being poured by the older figure into the hands of the younger figure, a metaphor for 'passing the baton' of time, knowledge and responsibility." -Barry Rose
