Fort Collins City Council adopted the current Water Supply and Demand Management Policy (PDF 183KB) in September 2003 (Resolution 2003-104). Since the policy's adoption, Fort Collins Utilities has developed a Water Conservation Plan (PDF 1.2MB) and continued to prepare for future water needs by pursuing the enlargement of Halligan Reservoir.
The Policy update (PDF 82KB) will provide further direction regarding the planning, management and maintenance of the City's water supply system to assure a reliable supply of water to meet our customer's needs. The Policy update (PDF 82KB) also will address significant reductions in water use since the 2003 Policy and the potential effects of climate change on future use. The update will adjust the water conservation goal, address alternatives for meeting future water needs and provide guidance on how the City may use its valuable water resources to meet other beneficial purposes for its citizens and the surrounding community.
City Council discussed the Policy update (PDF 82KB) during a work session in January 2012. Council requested additional work on the Policy update and another work session is scheduled for August 2012.
