In 2012, Fort Collins Utilities will begin installing improved digital electric and water meters in Phase I of the Advanced Meter Fort Collins project (See the Fact Sheet (PDF 1.7MB)). This project, which replaces current meters, will be completed in 2013.
The new meters will provide wireless communication between meters and the utility, eliminating the need to send a technician to customers' homes and businesses to manually read meters. Over 500 of our larger commercial customers have had advanced meters since 1995.
The new meters will give customers data that will allow them to better understand and manage utility use and costs. It also allows the Utilities to provide better service to our community.
