Utilities Receives National Recognition as Reliable Public Power Provider

Posted on: May-10-2017

Fort Collins Utilities Light & Power has earned a Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) Diamond Designation from the American Public Power Association for providing customers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service. To achieve diamond status, utilities must score 98 percent or greater on the evaluation criteria - Light & Power achieved a perfect rating of 100 percent.

The RP3 designation, which lasts for three years, recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Light & Power also received this award in 2014.

Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. Light & Power joins more than 220 public power utilities nationwide that hold the RP3 designation.

"Utilities that have earned an RP3 designation demonstrate public power's emphasis on achieving leading practices and providing a high level of service to communities," said David Lynch, chair of the Association's RP3 Review Panel.

"Our commitment to the RP3 program goes beyond providing reliable electricity," said Tim McCollough, Light & Power's operations manager. "Safety, workforce development and system improvements also are evaluated. This designation allows us to benchmark against our utility peers and to continuously improve the services we provide to the community. This recognition is a tremendous testimony to the hard work of our employees and management team."

The American Public Power Association has offered the RP3 designation for 12 years. The Association is the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 49 million people in 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. The Association advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training and operations.
