Utilities' Water Treatment Facility Receives the Partnership for Safe Water Presidents Award

Posted on: Jan-05-2017

Fort Collins Utilities' Water Treatment Facility recently received the prestigious "Presidents Award" from the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Partnership for Safe Water. The award recognizes excellence in drinking water quality by achieving high levels of performance for individual filters in the water treatment process. This honor ranks the Facility as one of 34 treatment plants nationwide to receive the award.

"Receiving the Presidents Award status demonstrates the hard work and dedication of our employees and their commitment to provide great-tasting, high-quality drinking water to our community," said Utilities' Water Production Manager Mark Kempton. "The Water Treatment Facility is staffed around-the-clock, 365 days a year. Providing safe water to Fort Collins is a high priority to each and every employee. The Presidents Award is an important milestone as we seek to continuously improve and satisfy the requirements for our future efforts to obtain the Excellence in Water Treatment Award."

The Partnership is a voluntary self-assessment program that encourages members to increase their water quality and provide drinking water that surpasses federal and state requirements. Members must complete a rigorous review of treatment practices by national experts, complete self-assessments and undergo a peer-review process.

To qualify for the award, the Water Treatment Facility first received the "Directors Award," an award the Facility has maintained for 15 years. The Facility also must consistently operate at a level beyond standard compliance with environmental regulations. "Continuous performance improvement is a high priority for Fort Collins Utilities," added Kempton. "The Partnership provides a framework to achieve this continuous improvement and helps us remain one of the top producers of high-quality water in the nation."
