Xeriscape Incentive Program Draws Great Community Interest, Gearing Up for 2017

Posted on: Nov-16-2016

Temperatures may be falling, but now is the perfect time to start thinking about the 2017 planting season. Many residents were doing just that when they attended Fort Collins Utilities’ Xeriscape Incentive Program (XIP) open house at Odell Brewing Company in October. Over 120 people attended to find out how the program can help them create a beautiful, water-wise landscape.

XIP enables eligible Utilities water customers to receive a rebate for installing a qualifying xeriscape design. A streamlined process, free education workshops and online resources help participants prepare for and navigate the design, installation and upkeep stages. To enroll, visit fcgov.com/xip.

In the 2016 pilot season, 32 residents completed landscape renovations through the program. On average, participants received a $550 rebate, with combined installation totaling 28,570 square feet of new, water-saving xeriscape.

XIP is a good fit for those who want to reduce water bills, attract birds and pollinators, cut back on mowing or improve yard aesthetics. The workshops are a required component of the program and will be held January through April 2017. Scheduling opens to registered participants in December.
