Donate Online to Help Keep Utility Services On for Residents in Need

Posted on: Jun-02-2016

Beginning in June, there is a new, easier way to donate to Fort Collins Utilities' Payment Assistance Fund. As an added convenience, donations now may be made online at https://www.fcgov.com/paf.

Having the electricity or water turned off for non-payment is a reality for many local residents. To help prevent this, the Payment Assistance Fund helps families, senior citizens and others in need stay current with their utility bills.

The Payment Assistance Fund is supported entirely by customer donations and has helped more than 4,000 Fort Collins Utilities customers keep their water and electricity on since it began in 2004. On average, 337 customers receive help each year, and the need persists, despite the improving economy.

Starting in 2016, a partnership with Energy Outreach Colorado matches all donations dollar-for-dollar, allowing more households to receive one-time, annual assistance after receiving a "past due" notice. Because of the match, the Payment Assistance Fund reached 48 percent more customers in January-April of this year, than during the same timeframe last year.

To donate online or learn more about how to receive assistance, visit fcgov.com/paf. Donations also may be made in person at the Utilities Customer Service Office, 117 N. Mason St., or over the phone at 970-212-2900 or V/TDD 711.
