Fort Collins Utilities Featured in Big Savers Energy Report

Posted on: Apr-19-2016

Fort Collins Utilities was showcased as a leader in energy efficiency programs in a report by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). Electric efficiency program investments across the country have increased from approximately $1.5 billion in 2006 to over $5.9 billion in 2014. As savings levels have increased, national leaders in program administration such as Fort Collins Utilities have emerged.

Based on data sources and suggestions from industry experts, ACEEE highlighted a total of 14 utilities, seeking a diversity of types, sizes and locations. Fort Collins Utilities was among the smaller examples chosen, and helped exhibit that leaders are not limited to large utilities in high electricity-cost states, such as Massachusetts or California. The utilities featured in the report demonstrate that high levels of energy savings not only are achievable, but also sustainable over time.

The report noted that Fort Collins' energy-savings targets present significant challenges. In order to meet these goals, Utilities will need to increase participation beyond the customers who have traditionally been engaged in its programs. State and local policies also are critical to driving and sustaining high levels of savings.
