Mountain Avenue Waterline Replacement Begins May 26

Posted on: May-21-2015

A two-year project to replace aging infrastructure in a historic neighborhood starts next week. Fort Collins Utilities’ contractor, Connell Resources, Inc., will begin construction Tuesday, May 26, in the eastbound lane of Mountain Avenue. Replacing two 100-year-old,
4-inch cast iron water pipes will increase fire protection and system reliability in the neighborhood.

The eastbound lane of Mountain Avenue from Shields Street to Grant Avenue will be closed to all traffic and the westbound lane will remain open for 4-6 weeks. Construction in the westbound lane will begin in early July.

Crews will use a trenchless technology that limits the need for excavation in the eastbound lane and directional drilling in the westbound lane. When water services are reconnected to the new main, excavation will occur between the sidewalk and curb and gutter.
Phase 1 of the Mountain Avenue Waterline Replacement project, from Grant Avenue to Shields Street, should be completed by mid-August. Phase 2, from Shields Street to Grandview Cemetery, will occur in the summer of 2016.

Safety for residents, commuters, bike riders, pedestrians and work crews is a priority. Barricades and fences will be used to clearly mark areas of excavation. For safety purposes, stay away from these areas and follow all signage instructions.

Periodic project updates will be posted on http://NextDoor.com and https://www.fcgov.com/mountain-waterline . For more information, contact Project Manager Matt Fater at 970-416-2146, mfater@fcgov.com or TDD 970-224-6003.

Did You Know?

After a rain, skipping watering until the grass dries will save not only water, but also money.

Mowing with a dull blade tears grass and stresses the lawn. Always be sure to mow with a sharp mower blade.
