In mid-October, Fort Collins Utilities will begin a rehabilitation project to the 24-inch raw water transmission pipeline in the Poudre Canyon. Construction will occur on a segment of the pipeline along State Highway 14, approximately two miles west of the intersection of US Highway 287. The project will be constructed completely outside the highway right-of-way and should not affect travel.
The project involves lining the existing concrete pipeline with a new high-density polyetheline liner (HDPE). Phase I of construction will occur this month and involve installation of approximately 1,600 lineal feet of liner. The remaining 18,000 feet of pipeline will be rehabilitated in the next 5 years, as funding allows.
These improvements will help preserve the 110-year-old pipeline and allow inclusion of features, such as line valves, blow-offs, and air and vacuum valves necessary for maintenance and repair.
