Through Fort Collins Utilities’ Appliance Rebate Program, qualifying customers can receive a $35 bill credit by recycling older, inefficient refrigerators and freezers. Utilities will even arrange to have these appliances picked up for free. The next pick up dates are April 17 and 28 and May 10 and 26. Call (970) 221-6700 to sign up.
Refrigerator and freezer efficiency has improved dramatically in the last 20 years, but many old, inefficient units are still in use. This program helps customers reduce energy use by disposing of these operating—yet inefficient—appliances in an environmentally responsible manner. Approximately 98 percent of the appliances are comprehensively recycled, keeping the material out of the landfill, http://fcgov.com/rfr.
Program guidelines:
must be a Utilities electric customer
must own the appliance being recycled (limit of two per account)
appliance must be working (plugged in and cooling) and between 10 to 27 cubic feet
customer will receive a one-time bill credit within four to six weeks after collection
