Fort Collins Utilities is offering double rebates of $70 through July 31 on qualified WaterSense toilets that use 1.28 gallons per flush or less as part of its ongoing water conservation efforts. Available only to Utilities residential water customers.
Toilets are typically the main source of water use in the home, accounting for nearly 30 percent of indoor consumption. Pre-1994 toilets use 3.5 to 7 gallons per flush, while newer WaterSense models use an average of 1.28 gallons per flush or less. Bathrooms that haven’t been updated in the past 15 years save thousands of gallons of water a year by installing high-efficiency toilets.
For additional savings, recycle your old toilet when you buy a new WaterSense toilet and receive a $15 rebate. The crushed porcelain from toilets is combined into an aggregate and used as road base. Toilets can be recycled at ReSource, 1501 N. College Ave., or City Streets Facility (if you have three or more). Recycling is free if the seat cover and all metal and plastic parts are removed, otherwise there is a $5 fee.
