WaterSHED takes students outdoors for math and science experiments that teach conservation.
WaterSHED educators lead river field trips and wetland studies for students in 3rd through 12th grade. Hands-on science and math activities take classroom concepts outdoors for active, effective learning.
All WaterSHED programs include standards-based science and math activities tailored to each grade level. Field equipment is provided.
Join us for one or many hours learning about local environments. Begin by exploring wetlands using microscopes and journals.
Can an orange help measure stream speed? These and other fun landform studies apply what students learned in the FOSS landforms and environment modules to the real world. Data collection, graphing and scientific writing appropriate for 5th and 6th graders are integral pieces of Stream Team studies.
Students don waders and enter streams to collect and examine aquatic insects in town or in Pingree Park. They discover how taking care of our land and water supports life.
Participate in river week or bring your students to the river for an hour or two. Students conduct actual science and math experiments. All activities are standards-based and exciting for active students. Options include:
Water chemistry, indicator species and environmental studies are high level and fun. Customized as needed to meet teaching objectives, these programs fit science standards for biology, chemistry and environmental studies. Equipment is provided.
