Larimer County Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) Project

Larimer County is converting its Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) to a digital format using funding by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the State, Larimer County and county communities.

Local planners and floodplain administrators, lending agents and other organizations use the FIRM to view floodplains, also referred to as Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs).

Lenders require that structures located in SFHAs be covered by flood insurance as part of the City's participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), administered by FEMA under the Department of Homeland Security.

DFIRMs (digital FIRMs) feature GIS layers of flood hazards and base maps that communities can use for additional planning purposes.

Return to this site later to see additional information about:

  • Flood insurance requirements and grandfathering rules;
  • Schedule for adoption of the DFIRMs;
  • New proposed floodplain boundaries for Spring Creek and Cooper Slough/Boxelder Creek;
  • Datum conversion from NGVD29 to NAVD88.
