Photo - soil hauling truck

Construction of detention basins will include typical large excavation and hauling equipment.

The project consists of two major components: stormwater detention (storing water) and stormwater
conveyance (moving the water).

Four existing stormwater detention areas will be enlarged, including:

  • Plum Detention Basin;
  • Avery Pond;
  • Fairbrooke Detention Basin; and
  • Red Fox Meadows Detention Basin.

Two new basins will be created at Glenmoor Detention Basin and Kane Detention Basin.

  • Excavation of the detention areas will generate many thousands of cubic yards of material that will be hauled away in trucks to a location yet to be determined.
  • An outfall structure and water quality pond will be built at Red Fox Meadows. Basins, ponds and other affected natural areas and wildlife habitat will be preserved or restored.
  • An extensive large-diameter stormwater pipe (ranging from 60 to 102 inches) and inlet system will move the storm water into the detention basins.
  • Inlets and storm sewers will be constructed at South Taft Hill Road and Suffolk Street and drain to Fairbrooke Detention Basin.
