MOVE, CONNECT, THRIVE: Transforming Your Neighborhood through Active Lifestyle!

Shift Your Ride: Neighborhood is a hyper-local, community based approach to sustainable transportation.  The program offers transportation coaching, personalized trip planning, and financial incentives for using various modes of active transportation. Program goals include:

  • Highlight walkable and bikeable routes to local businesses, social gatherings, schools, jobs, etc.
  • Encourage future active transportation among participants, after the program concludes.
  • Feature local businesses and organizations that support active transportation, health, wellness, and community well-being. Create opportunities to connect participants with these organizations.
  • Foster social capital by connecting neighbors with one another during the program and beyond.

Shift Your Ride Neighborhood Program- Business Involvement#

We are reaching out to all businesses within a 1.5-mile radius of the University Park neighborhood (Peterson St. & E. Laurel St. as center) to participate by proudly displaying a Shift Your Ride (SYR) poster as a place for tracking the number of folks who arrive by walking, bike, scooting or any other mode of active transportation. When residents arrive by any active mode of transportation, they record their trip by placing an official SYR sticker on the displayed poster. This is a very visible way for folks to see that their efforts matter collectively, and together we can make a difference in the future of active transportation in Fort Collins.

Shift Your Ride Poster

Look for this poster at participating businesses within a bikeable or walkable radius of University Park.

Add your sticker to the poster each time you take an active mode of transportation on your errands or outings. As the stickers accumulate, the "drop in a bucket" effect will be an encouraging reminder that we are all an important part of this collective action!

Travel Demand Management#

FC Moves is developing a travel demand management (TDM) program branded as Shift Your Ride Travel Options. A TDM program employs a suite of strategies to help people SHIFT to travel modes leading to improved mobility, reduced congestion, and lower vehicle emissions. TDM programs employ strategies that include programs, policies, marketing, communications, incentives, pricing, data, and technology to encourage people to shift their mode of travel.

A TDM program complements infrastructure with a focus on understanding how people use the infrastructure in place for transit ridesharing, walking, biking, and telework.

The Shift Your Ride program will also focus on expanding access to electric vehicles (EV) and EV infrastructure.

Program Development#

A Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) comprised of City staff and external stakeholders was assembled to provide input to the plan and program development. In addition to various City departments, the TAC is comprised of stakeholders from Colorado State University (CSU), Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Larimer County, North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization (NFRMPO), Downtown Development Authority (DDA), Chamber of Commerce and Poudre School District (PSD).

To better understand mobility barriers and needs, focus groups will be conducted with small businesses, low-income residents, essential/shift workers, the education sector, transportation service providers, and organizations that support economic success and job access.
