Warmer weather means walking and biking!

As spring approaches, the Safe Routes to School program is gearing up for an exciting spring.  The first weekly “Walking and Wheeling Wednesday” of the year will be held on April 8, 2009 (rescheduled from April 1, 2009). Safe Routes to School and FC Bikes will host Bike to School Day on April 15, 2009. These walking and bicycling events are a great chance for children and parents to meet friends and neighbors and have a great time getting to and from school.  Prizes and other goodies will be available to encourage safe walking and bicycling.

We need your help!  Teachers, staff, parents, and anyone else interested in volunteering with Safe Routes to School should contact Matt Wempe, the Fort Collins Safe Routes to School coordinator at 970.416.2040 or email .  Also, make sure you’re signed up with the PSD Partnership Center (http://www.psdschools.org/programs/partnershipcenter) and select “Safe Routes to School” as one of your activities.

A safe and efficient walkable community is possible.

The Safe Routes to School Program was designed to promote the safety and environmental conditions for students traveling to and from school. With the hope to increase the numbers of students walking or bicycling to school, this program uses the Five E's to provide a comprehensive approach to traffic safety problems around schools.
