Over the past five years, there has been a complete paradigm shift about the City's role in economic health. We have never, in the history of Fort Collins, done more to create a community where businesses can succeed in a way that fits community values.
Economic Action Plan
In 2006 the City created our first ever Economic Action plan with the vision of creating a healthy economy reflecting the values of our unique community in a changing world. Rocky Mountain Innovation Initiative (RMI2) - The technology incubator provides high-potential innovation-based startups with facilities, access to a network of seasoned mentors and advisors, hands on support services, business connections, networking opportunities and education.

Business retention and expansion - Through one-on-one meetings with local businesses and appropriate City departments, staff addresses obstacles and expedites the development review process.

North College Avenue infrastructure improvements - The project will improve streetscapes, install continuous bike lanes and pedestrian sidewalks, and upgrade the stormwater drainage system.

Urban Renewal Authority (URA) - The URA seeks to identify and revive targeted areas within city limits that promote investment for public benefit and eliminate significant obstacles to redevelopment.

Midtown Commercial Corridor Study - Midtown is the area along College Avenue, between Prospect and Harmony Road including the Foothills Mall. The City is taking the lead in generating a vision for the area. The study will evaluate opportunities and challenges of the corridor and provide strategic direction for the City and community.

Shop Fort Collins First - Money spent in Fort Collins stays in Fort Collins. This ongoing community campaign to raise awareness of the importance of shopping in Fort Collins. Sixty percent of the City's budget comes from sales tax collections; when people shop in Fort Collins, everyone wins.

Economic E-Newsletter - This brief, online publication examines the local economy and climate from the Chief Financial Officer's perspective. The newsletter reports on our industry cluster activities, new City initiatives and features business success stories that don't make the mainstream media.
