  • Radon reduction systems
    As part of an overhaul of the building codes in 2004, City Council adopted a requirement that new homes build in 2005 and beyond be equipped with a system to remove dangerous radon gas.
  • New 911 dispatch system
    Fort Collins Police Services, the Poudre Fire Authority and the Larimer County Sheriff's office implemented a Regional Computer Aided Dispatch System that helps them respond within 6 minutes when a call comes into dispatch. A message is immediately sent to police officers' pagers, laptop computers and radios, allowing for calls to be processed faster.
  • Poudre Fire Authority focuses on prevention
    The Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) partnered with Larimer County and the Poudre School District to enhance its program aimed at preventing juvenile fire-setting incidents. Through its Car Seat Program, PFA firefighters worked with hundreds of families to properly install car seats.
  • SWAT training
    Fort Collins Police Services hosted an advanced SWAT training school.
  • Police Services helps create a Colorado State law
    City officials worked hard for the passage of Lacy's Law in 2004, stiffening the penalty for impersonating a police officer.
  • New Police building will relieve overcrowding
    The City purchased land for a new building to house Police Services. After nearly 50 years in the same downtown location, and many years of overcrowding, Police Services will move to its new facility in southeast Fort Collins at the end of 2007. The land purchase was funded by Building Community Choices, a tax measure approved by the voters in 1997.
  • Community Outreach
    In support of good neighboring in Fort Collins, Police Services participated again in welcoming back CSU students last fall.
