Solar Rebate Program Step-by-Step Procedure

Application Timeline

  • July 8 – August 8 (5 p.m.). Applications accepted at Fort Collins Utilities.
  • August 8 – August 15 Utilities will review applications and work with applicants to clarify information if necessary.
  • August 15 Drawing held to award rebates if number of applications (completed applications received by August 8 only) submitted exceeds available funding.

Note: Applications received after August 8 will be placed on a wait list in the order recieved.

Step 1: Before Purchasing Photovoltaic (PV) Equipment

Step 2: Submit Solar Rebate Application

Read FAQs and work with your PV installer to prepare and submit rebate application (PDF 221KB). Complete first three sections (Applicant, Project and Installer) of application. Contact contractor and/or equipment manufacturer for assistance obtaining information required in application. Required information to submit with application includes:

  • PV Watts analysis;
  • evidence of system cost quotation or signed contract with your installer and installation warranty policy;
  • payback analysis (if provided);
  • equipment specifications; and
  • one-line and site drawings.

Step 3. Purchase Equipment and Install System

Fort Collins Utilities will notify you if your rebate application is selected in the drawing. If selected, obtain permits, purchase equipment, install and test system. Complete installation within 90 days. Schedule on-site energy audit with Fort Collins Utilities or alternate provider.

Step 4: Request Inspection from Utilities

  • Request inspection of PV system from Fort Collins Utilities Electric Engineering at (970) 221-6700 or e-mail (This inspection is in addition to any inspection required by Fort Collins Building and Zoning).
  • If system fails inspection, complete required change(s) and request another inspection.
  • When system passes inspection, provide the following to receive Permit to Operate from Fort Collins Utilities:
    • equipment serial numbers;
    • evidence of Building and Zoning permit sign-off;
    • final installer invoice;
    • signed final certifications (on application form (PDF 221KB)): and
    • signed Interconnection Agreement (PDF 16KB) and REC contract (under revision).

Step 5: Operate System

Rebate check will be mailed to address on application within 4 to 6 weeks.
