Fort Collins Police Unveils New Website to Track Sex Offenders
This news was released 421 days ago and may contain inaccurate information.
Fort Collins Police Services has begun using a statewide sex offender tracking website.
The website, called SOTAR (Sex Offender Tracking and Registration), is a comprehensive database of registered sexual offenders across Colorado and was developed by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
In addition to Fort Collins, there are over 60 other jurisdictions in Colorado using the system. A search of SOTAR can return results from any of the participating agencies.
The site allows law enforcement agencies to share information on offenders that move between jurisdictions in an effort to maintain the most up-to-date information.
Members of the community have the option to create an account on SOTAR and be alerted when an offender moves within a chosen radius of user-specified locations such as home, school, or church.
Not all offenders are eligible for posting on SOTAR. Inclusion or exclusion is based on state law and the crime of conviction for the offender. Details on eligible offenses can be found on the SOTAR website.
A complete list of registered sex offenders can be obtained in person from the Fort Collins Police Services Records Division, 2221 S. Timberline Road, 7 days a week, Monday-Friday 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. and on weekends, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a fee of $7.50.
Please contact Investigative Aide Alisha Stock at 970-221-6568 with any questions about SOTAR.
