Fort Collins Police Services Requests Assistance in Reckless Endangerment Investigation

On July 23, 2013 at approximately 1930hrs, Fort Collins Police Services received a report of a person in a vehicle pointing what appeared to be a “BB Gun” at pedestrians near Prospect Road and South College Avenue in Fort Collins. Multiple witnesses called Fort Collins Police Services Dispatch regarding the incident and the vehicle was described as a green Kia sport utility vehicle.
The suspect vehicle was contacted by Fort Collins Police Officers near Harmony Road and South College Avenue in Fort Collins. An “Airsoft” gun designed to shoot small plastic projectiles and a 9mm handgun were found in the vehicle. A male passenger in the vehicle was cited for Reckless Endangerment, a Class 3 Misdemeanor, and Disorderly Conduct, a Class I Petty Offense. The male’s identity is being withheld until the conclusion of the investigation. At this time, the investigating Officers have not received information to indicate the 9mm handgun was involved in this incident.
Based upon information obtained in the investigation, Officers believe there may be additional victims or witnesses to this incident. Statements obtained from witnesses indicate the suspect vehicle travelled from the area of Downtown Fort Collins to the area of Harmony Road and South College Avenue. One specific report indicated a juvenile male, who was approximately ten years old, was struck with a plastic BB near the intersection of Stuart Street and South College Avenue, near the Dairy Queen store. Fort Collins Police Officers have been unable to contact this juvenile or his parents.
This incident is under active investigation and no further information is available at this time.
