Stream and Precipitation Gages
Our gages are working very well and continue to alarm us to heavy rainfall and water flow. Because of the initial success, we are now planning an expansion of the system and are working on funding sources.

Local Data Acquisition and Dissemination System (LDAD)
Officials from the Forecast Systems Laboratory in Boulder visited Fort Collins on August 27th. They were given a tour of our Stormwater and OEM facilities and were provided information on how we operate during an emergency. The information will be helpful for improvements and future development of LDAD for Emergency Managers.

Y2K Tabletop
On 9/9/99, OEM held a Y2K tabletop exercise for city and local officials. Bob Wold of the Colorado State OEM assisted and conducted the scenario (a major blizzard arriving on New Year's Eve). Approximately 70 people attended and participated.

River Mitigation Activities
The Stormwater Utility conducted a river clean-up campaign, involving the removal of dead or diseased trees and other debris from the banks of the Poudre River for flood mitigation purposes. Channel 9 News aired a nice story about the event on September 6th featuring Marsha Hilmes of Stormwater. Community volunteers also got involved by organizing "Riverfest," which was a day of trash clean-up along the river ending in a festival involving food, music, and information about the river.

Emergency Auto-Dialer
Our emergency auto-dialer was installed during the week of August 30th, and is now ready for use. We are still learning about the some of the many capabilities of this complex system. For those of you considering a similar system, you may want to know that we have been very happy with Dialogic Communications Corporation's product and service. (They are a national Project Impact partner.)

Conferences
OEM Director Glenn Levy was the keynote speaker at the New Mexico Emergency Managers' Conference on September 14th. He spoke on the changing role of the Emergency Manager, the importance of mitigation, and Project Impact. Glenn also spoke at the Colorado Governor's Conference in Breckenridge on August 30th.

Regional Floodproofing Workshop
Fort Collins hosted the Colorado Association of Stormwater and Floodplain Managers' Regional Floodproofing Workshop on June 15. Marsha Hilmes was part of the organizing committee and also a presenter. As part of the workshop, participants were taken on a tour of several successful floodproofing projects, conducted by Marsha and Bob Smith of Stormwater Utility. Iola Fleischer attended the workshop.

Community Education
Iola Fleischer represented the OEM at a community meeting on September 16 at the main city library. Discussion focused on Y2K and disaster preparedness. We displayed a sample 72-hour emergency supplies kit.
