Fort Collins police are investigating an early morning shooting involving a police officer who responded to a report of a man with a knife in the emergency room parking lot at Poudre Valley Hospital – University of Colorado Health, 1024 S. Lemay Avenue. The call was received shortly before 5 a.m.
Upon arrival, the suspect confronted the officer with the knife and the officer fired his weapon. The suspect, a 53 year-old male, is being treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained. No one else was injured and there is no danger to the public.
An investigation into the shooting is occurring. It is the policy of Fort Collins Police Services to place any officer who is involved in a shooting on paid administrative leave during the investigation. The officer identity has not been released at this time. No further information is available at this time.
