The City of Fort Collins is reconstructing two structurally deficient bridges in the University North neighborhood. Construction on the first bridge which crosses beneath Myrtle Street east of Sherwood Street started in early January. Construction on the second bridge crosses beneath Mountain Avenue east of Whitcomb Street will start on Monday, February 3. This project is anticipated to continue through June 2014.
In order to complete the construction, there will be closures of both Mountain Avenue and Myrtle Street in the vicinity of the bridge repairs.
Construction on both project sites will include removal of existing culvert boxes, replacement with new boxes, storm sewer work, and roadway improvements. The Myrtle Street will receive new asphalt paving, curb and gutter, and concrete sidewalks. The Mountain Avenue site will receive new concrete paving and new median landscaping. When completed, the bridges will be able to support all vehicles which frequent the roadway.
