Parents & Children Invited to Explore Natural World...Together

FORT COLLINS – January 7, 2014 – A new year offers a fresh opportunity at the Gardens on Spring Creek, 2145 Centre Avenue, for parents and children to enjoy exploring the world of botanical art and creativity together.

A variety of unique classes for parents and children are being offered each Tuesday evening beginning January 14. Registration is now open for the winter series of Parent & Child Together classes. Pre-registration for each participant is required. The classes are geared for children ages 5 and over and their parent or caregiver.

January Parent & Child Classes

Coiled Baskets
Tuesday, Jan.14; 5:30 p.m.
Ages:  Parent/caregiver and children ages 8+
Cost per person:  $13
Community artist and sculptor Elizabeth Lundberg Morisette will teach techniques to create a coiled basket using jute rope, wool and natural items collected from The Gardens.   All materials provided. Each participant will take home a unique basket.

Herbal Tea Blending
Tuesday, Jan. 21; 5:30 p.m.
Ages:  Parent/caregiver and children ages 5+
Cost per person: $14
Join Andy Boone, Assistant Manager and Master Tea Blender at Happy Lucky’s Tea House, as he teaches about herbal teas and blending.  Participants will sample several herbs and create their own herbal tea blend to take home.  All materials provided.

Tie-Dye with Natural Dyes
Date:  Tuesday, January 28; 5:30 p.m.
Ages:  Parent/caregiver and children ages 5+
Cost per person:  $14
Instructors Phoebe Slingman and Michael Ranum partner to unveil the secrets of tie-dye.  The secret recipes of natural dyes will be shared with participants. Practice techniques on fabric swatches provided.  Participants should bring a single article of white/off-white cotton clothing for the final project.

About the Gardens on Spring Creek
The Gardens on Spring Creek opened in May 2004, part of a vital public/private partnership between the city of Fort Collins and the Friends of the Gardens on Spring Creek. The Gardens currently includes a showpiece Plant Select® Demonstration Garden, a Children’s’ Garden, the Garden of Eatin’, a Rock Garden, Sustainable Backyard, and the Xeric Parkway Strip. The Gardens also supports school and community garden outreach programs, year-round educational programs for all ages and interests in horticulture, and hosts several special events.
