The City of Fort Collins received two awards at the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association’s annual conference held in Vail, CO this fall. The Colorado Parks and Recreation Association or CPRA is a dynamic, proactive organization that creates healthy residents and livable communities by promoting excellence in parks and recreation. The association’s mission is to promote the parks and recreation profession and its growth throughout the State of Colorado. In its 61st year, the association’s membership is comprised of parks and recreation departments in Colorado. Every year the organization hosts a conference that provides educational sessions and honors organizations and individuals throughout Colorado.
The City’s Park Planning Director, Craig Foreman, was presented the CPRA 2013 Fellow Award. According to CPRA the Fellow Award is “The highest honor bestowed upon a CPRA member.” Foreman has worked for the City of Fort Collins for over 27 years and has been an integral part in the development of numerous parks and trails. Craig was honored for his dedication, leadership and his ability to collaborate successfully with other organizations. In 1986, when Foreman started working for City’s Park Planning department, there were 26 parks, today there are 54 parks throughout Fort Collins. Included in that number are two 100 acre community parks – Spring Canyon Community Park and Fossil Creek Community Park. Mr. Foreman and his team have also enhanced and established the City’s popular paved trail system. In 1986 the City of Fort Collins included 10 miles of trails, today citizens of Fort Collins benefit from over 32 miles of paved trails. Marty Heffernan, Community Services Executive Director, presented the Fellow Award to Foreman at the conference. During Heffernan’s presentation he pointed out Craig’s legacy and dedication, “In surveying the Fort Collins landscape it’s guaranteed you’ll find Craig Foreman’s 27 year influence in just about every corner” Heffernan continued “He has shined at establishing collaborations that work and the citizens of Fort Collins have reaped the benefits.”
