Spaceflight Explorers Week at Museum of Discovery

Hold on to your helmet! It’s Spaceflight Explorers Week!


FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery partners with NASA and the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society (NCAS) to present a week of space science and astronomy programs, events, and special OtterBox Digital Dome Theater shows from August 6th through August 10th. The NASA-developed Spaceflight Explorers program engages participants in space exploration activities, and encourages youth to consider careers in space science. Programs and dome shows will be offered daily beginning at 10:00am and each day focuses on a different theme.

Free OtterBox Digital Dome presentations: Presentations are Tuesday, August 6th through Friday, August 9th. Presentations include a NASA Live Link with Fort Collins native astronaut, Dorothy Metcalf-Lindenburger on Wednesday, August 7th at 2:00pm. Other shows are offered through the week. Seating is limited in the OtterBox Digital Dome. Please call (970) 221-6738 or visit the museum’s website for show themes and times, and information about making a reservation.

Free Evening Events In partnership with NCAS: Thursday, August 8th at 7:30pm, Mark Kochte speaks about his experience as the Payload Specialist with NASA's Mercury Messenger mission. This program will be held in the OtterBox Digital Dome. The program is free, but seating is limited and registration is recommended. Call the museum for reservations at 221-6738.

Friday, August 9th, attend our inaugural Star Party! on the museum’s Rooftop Observation Deck for an evening of stargazing and moon watching. Bring your telescope for a tune-up beginning at 6:30pm, and stay to enjoy moon viewing at 8pm and stargazing post-moon setting. Telescopes are not required! Events begin at 6:30pm; drop-in access to the program is from 6:30-9pm; and event ends at 10pm.
