Fort Collins police were called to Westfield Detention Pond in the 4000 block of Seneca Street in Fort Collins at approximately 10:25 a.m. this morning on the report of a person in the pond. Upon arrival officers found a juvenile male lying in the water just a few feet from the shore. His chair was flipped over and fishing gear on the shore. Poudre Fire Authority sent in one rescue swimmer who removed the victim. Emergency medical crews started CPR while enroute to the hospital. The victim was pronounced dead approximately 1 hour later. There were no obvious signs of foul play.
The identification of the victim and official cause of death will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office. Police are investigating the unattended death to determine the circumstances, which is standard procedure.
