The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will begin placing ballast in the railroad track area Downtown on Mason Street beginning Wednesday, May 15. The work will continue for several weeks. The ballast (gravel fill material) will be unloaded from a truck that runs on the rails to minimize traffic impacts. Expect sporadic lane closures and traffic control flaggers to direct motorists around the work zone. BNSF replaced this section of track last summer, and this operation is the final step of the track replacement effort. Construction of the bus stops continues Downtown as part of the City’s MAX Bus Rapid Transit Project.

MAX is on the Way! Construction of the MAX Bus Rapid Transit system will continue until early 2014, with MAX service beginning in May 2014. MAX will offer passengers rail-like convenience at 12 stations and 2 transit centers between Downtown and Harmony Road, with service every 10 minutes and real-time bus arrival information at each station. MAX will connect Downtown Fort Collins, Colorado State University, Midtown and south Fort Collins, providing new economic redevelopment opportunities near station locations.
