Watch the Sun, Moon, and Stars During May

The pleasant temperatures of spring invite us to get outside both day and night. In May, the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Department will offer several chances to explore the night skies. Free, no registration is required for these programs.
Solar Eclipse
Sunday, May 20, 6-9 p.m.
Fossil Creek Reservoir Regional Open Space
A partial solar eclipse will be visible in Fort Collins, join members of the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society to use special telescopes that allow you to view the sun. Educational activities will also be available to help understand what happens during a solar eclipse. Free, no registration required.
Harry Potter Stargazing
Thursday, May 24, 8:15 p.m.
Bobcat Ridge Natural Area, meet at the picnic shelter
Discover the origins of some of the names of characters from the Harry Potter books. The program will match the names of characters to their namesakes in the stars and constellations of the sky. Viewing of the skies and the moon follows the program with telescopes provided by the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society. Dress warmly. Please arrive on time as the gate closes after the program begins. Free, no registration required.
Skygazing
Rescheduled to Saturday, May 26, 9 p.m. (instead of May 25)
Fossil Creek Reservoir Regional Open Space
Monthly skygazing has been rescheduled. Enjoy view of the stars, planets, moon, and other celestial objects through telescopes provided by the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society. Dress warmly.
