Recent improvements to the Spring Creek floodplain have helped remove more than 120 homes and businesses from the floodplain and decreased flood risks for 850 properties.
Over 1,600 Fort Collins residents with properties within the former floodplain boundaries will be notified that their boundaries have been reduced or eliminated. Among the properties removed from the floodplain are two critical facilities, Poudre Fire Authority Station #3 and the Platte River Power Authority Timberline Substation.
New FEMA maps will be in effect May 2 and can be viewed using a property search at

With funding assistance from a federal Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant, Fort Collins Utilities developed new stormwater detention projects at Spring Canyon Park, Taft Hill Road, Rolland Moore Park, and the Burlington Northern Railroad near College Avenue and Timberline Road.
Flood risks and local drainage problems may still exist on all properties removed from the 100-year floodplain. Fort Collins Utilities recommends all residences and businesses near the floodplain apply for a preferred risk flood insurance policy, which costs significantly less than policies for structures located within the floodplain. Nationwide, 30 percent of flood insurance claims come from areas outside the mapped floodplain.
