The City of Fort Collins has been designated a Storm Ready Community by the National Weather Service. Fort Collins is one of 750 communities in the United States to receive this designation.
Colorado is susceptible to severe weather that produces thunderstorms, tornadoes, flash floods, hail, lighting, severe winter storms and wind damage.
The Fort Collins Office of Emergency Management worked with several other City departments to achieve the Storm Ready designation. Work included establishing early warning systems, weather monitoring, and educational and training programs, along with receiving and disseminating emergency weather information.
