WRAP Offers Recycling Rebates and Assistance to Businesses and
Apartment Complexes
5 April 2012 -- (Fort Collins, CO) – Recycling opportunities for Fort Collins businesses and apartment complexes just got easier thanks to a new program called WRAP. The Waste Reduction and Recycling Assistance Program is a municipal program by the City of Fort Collins to encourage businesses and apartment complexes to recycle and compost.
WRAP consists of rebates, free on-site waste assessments, and free education assistance. Any apartment or condo complex or business that does not currently have a recycling or compost program in place is eligible to participate in the program. Up to $500 for recycling service charges and up to $250 for start-up costs are available in rebates. The program also includes a $50 Downtown Bucks gift card incentive for anyone who refers a business or apartment complex to join the WRAP program.
“This program is aimed at businesses or multi-family home complexes that have never gotten around to starting a recycling program, or who may have stopped for one reason or another,” says Environmental Planner Caroline Mitchell. “Knowing how to start a recycling program isn’t in the job description of most business owners or property managers. Our staff is here to make this process easy and offer rebates to ensure that this launching process is financially attractive as well,” adds Mitchell.
Ultimate Health and Wellness, a Fort Collins medical office, recently became the first participant in the WRAP program. Office Manager Emily Boizot, says, “Caroline did an assessment in our office to suggest where we should place recycling bins and helped me understand ways to make our program work most efficiently. She also came to a staff meeting to kick-off the recycling program and educate our staff about what can be placed in the recycling bins. Along with the rebates, her assistance was key in helping us start our recycling program and making it easy and affordable.”
The City of Fort Collins has a goal of recycling or composting 50% of the community’s waste. In 2010, the community diverted 43% of materials from the landfill. WRAP is just one of many ways the City of Fort Collins is working to achieve the 50% diversion goal.
Recycling programs have been shown to increase employee morale and increase satisfaction of residents and employees, and can save a business or apartment complex money on their trash bills. To learn more about WRAP, visit
