On March 23 at about 6:48 p.m., Fort Collins Police Services was notified of a car versus pedestrian collision near the intersection of Cherry and Sherwood Streets.
A 1997 Ford Contour sedan was traveling west on Cherry Street between Sherwood and Whitcomb Streets. A pedestrian walked mid-block across Cherry Street from north to south and was hit by the sedan.
The pedestrian, Manuel Gonzales, 62, of Fort Collins, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies. The driver of the sedan, Carol Campau, 38, of Fort Collins, and her passengers were not injured.
Cherry Street was closed between Sherwood and Whitcomb Streets for 4 hours while investigators processed the scene. Police do not believe speed contributed to the collision and are investigating whether the driver stopped for the stop sign at Sherwood Street or was impaired by drugs or alcohol. The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
Anyone with information about the collision, who has not already given a statement to police, is asked to call Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-221-6555.
